What Adelaide daycares are charging right now

$80 to $100 per outing
Pick up by bus, an off site property or beach, drop off in the afternoon. A different product to daily daycare, priced accordingly, and usually one or two days a week rather than a routine.
For context, industry pricing guides put Australian daycare at $35 to $65 a day nationally, so Adelaide sits in the normal range. Melbourne and Sydney centres commonly charge $65 to $80.
Why one daycare costs $40 and another costs $65
The price is mostly a function of four things. When you understand them, you can judge whether a daycare is expensive or just honest about its costs.
- Staff to dog ratio. The single biggest cost. A daycare with one person watching 15 dogs is a different day for your dog than one person across 40. Ask the number. If they will not give it, that is your answer.
- Group size and matching. Small groups sorted by size and temperament take more effort and mean fewer dogs paying per day. Mixed groups of 5 kg and 40 kg dogs are cheaper to run and harder on the small dogs.
- The space itself. A rented warehouse costs more than a backyard, and that shows up in the price. Concrete and turf are cheaper to clean than grass. Grass is nicer for the dog.
- What is included. Rest periods, enrichment, photo updates, an assessment day, a wash before pick up. Some daycares bundle these in, others charge extras, and some do not offer them at all.
What a week and a month actually costs
Daycare is rarely a one off. Most dogs come one to three days a week, so the useful number is the weekly or monthly total, not the day rate.

At the large commercial centres, two full days a week runs about $120 to $130 casual and around $115 on a pass. Over a year that is a difference of several hundred dollars, which is worth knowing, but it should not be the deciding factor. The right daycare is the one where your dog comes home relaxed rather than wired.
Five honest ways to pay less
- Buy a bundle once your dog is settled. Ten day packs typically save $50 to $60. Do not buy one before the assessment; make sure your dog likes the place first.
- Use half days where a full day is not needed. A half day of play and a rest is plenty for many small dogs, and it costs $20 less.
- Bring the second dog. Most daycares give $10 off a day for two dogs from the same home, including Dog Love.
- Pick the quieter days. Some daycares run cheaper midweek or have more space on Mondays and Thursdays, which also means a calmer day for your dog.
- Stack the wash. If your dog needs a wash anyway, adding it at daycare pick up is usually discounted and saves a second trip. We take $5 off.
What the price should always include
Whatever you pay, these belong in the base price. If a daycare charges extra for any of them, ask why.
- An assessment or trial before the first full day. Any daycare that takes a new dog without meeting them first is choosing volume over your dog.
- A vaccination check. Protects every dog in the group, including yours.
- Scheduled rest. Dogs who play for eight hours straight come home overtired and grumpy. Calm time is not a luxury.
- Fresh water and shade all day. Especially through an Adelaide summer.
- A phone call if your dog is not coping. Not a note at pick up. A call.
- Photo and video updates through the day. They stop the wondering, and they show you how your dog actually behaves in the group.

Is daycare worth the money for your dog?
Not every dog needs daycare and not every dog enjoys it. It earns its cost when your dog is home alone for long stretches, is bored or under exercised, or is a young dog who needs safe social time with other dogs. It is less useful for dogs who are anxious in groups or who are perfectly content sleeping through the day.
Compared with a dog walker at $25 to $35 for a 30 minute walk, a half day of daycare at $35 buys several hours of movement, company and supervision. Compared with doing nothing, the saving usually shows up somewhere else: fewer chewed shoes, a calmer evening, a dog who sleeps through the night.
