Professional dog deshedding in Adelaide, done properly

Deshedding is not the same as a regular wash. It is a targeted treatment that removes loose undercoat, reduces shedding at the source, and leaves your dog's coat lighter, softer and healthier. When it is done properly, the difference is significant.

At Dog Love in Tranmere, our deshedding treatment uses a deep cleanse, high-performance blow out and thorough brush finish to clear loose coat that a normal wash would leave behind. The result is less fur on your couch, a more comfortable dog, and a coat that stays cleaner for longer.

What deshedding actually does

A deshedding treatment works by loosening and removing the dead undercoat that sits beneath the top coat. A regular wash softens the coat but does not clear this undercoat the way a targeted deshedding treatment does.

The process at Dog Love includes a deep cleanse with deshedding shampoo, a high-velocity blow out to release loose coat, and a thorough brush and comb finish. The amount of coat that comes out often surprises owners who have never had it done before.

02

Short coat vs long coat deshedding

Short coat deshedding is for dogs with a smooth or sleek coat that still has a dense undercoat underneath. Staffies, Beagles and short-coated Boxers do not look like heavy shedders but they can shed significantly. A deshedding treatment clears that loose coat efficiently.

Long coat deshedding is for dogs with longer, denser fur and a heavier undercoat. Labradors, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Border Collies, Huskies and Kelpies are classic examples. These breeds carry a lot of undercoat and benefit significantly from regular deshedding treatments.

03

How often should you deshed your dog?

Most double-coated dogs benefit from a deshedding treatment every 6 to 8 weeks. During seasonal coat blows in spring and autumn, more frequent treatments help manage the heavy shedding period faster and more comfortably for your dog.

Regular deshedding also keeps the coat healthier between treatments by preventing undercoat buildup, improving airflow to the skin, and distributing natural oils more evenly through the coat.

Breeds That Benefit Most

Double-coated and heavy shedding breeds welcome

Any dog with a double coat or a dense undercoat will benefit from regular professional deshedding. These breeds shed continuously and seasonally, and a proper deshedding treatment makes a significant difference to both the dog's comfort and the amount of fur in your home.

We also deshed short-coated breeds that shed heavily despite their smooth appearance. If your dog is leaving fur everywhere, deshedding is almost always the right call.
