A deshed is not a regular wash. It is a treatment that loosens and clears the dead undercoat sitting under the top coat, so your dog feels lighter and more comfortable and your home stays cleaner for longer.
We do it the gentle way: a conditioning bath, the conditioner brushed through while it is still in the coat, a thorough blow out, then a release spray and the right comb to finish. No blades and no deshedding rakes, ever.

The loose undercoat comes out with product in the coat, not by dragging a tool through dry fur. That is what keeps it gentle.

How often
Most double coated dogs do well with a deshed every 6 to 8 weeks. Through the spring and autumn coat blows, roughly September to November and March to May, every 4 to 6 weeks helps clear the heavy shed faster and keeps your dog comfortable.
Regular deshedding also stops undercoat building up between visits, which lets air reach the skin and keeps the coat cleaner for longer.

Best dog groomer’s ever! Was a little anxious in taking my 11 year old Labrador to Dog Love Grooming for the first time yesterday. My baby boy isn’t as active anymore and I wasn’t sure if he would cope with a full 2 hour groom and de-shedding. Questions
It loosens and removes the dead undercoat that sits under your dog's top coat. A normal wash cleans the coat but leaves most of that loose undercoat behind, which is why the fur keeps coming.
Book the short coat deshed for smooth coats that still shed, like Staffies, Beagles and Boxers. Book the long coat deshed for double coats and heavy shedders, like Labradors, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Border Collies, Huskies and Kelpies.

A short coat deshed takes about 45 to 90 minutes and a long coat deshed about 60 to 180 minutes, depending on your dog's size and how much undercoat is ready to come out. We text you about 15 minutes before your dog is ready.

No. Blade style deshedding tools and deshedding rakes can pull on the skin, strip guard hairs that do not grow back the same and even burn the skin. A good deshed only needs a brush, a deshedding comb and a release spray. Our article on why that deshedding tool is hurting your dog's coat explains more.
Please don't. The undercoat insulates against heat as well as cold, and a shaved double coat can grow back patchy or not at all. Regular deshedding keeps your dog cooler without the risk. Severe matting or a medical reason can make clipping the right call.
