Dog grooming in Tranmere, everything you need to know.
Want your dog to look and feel their best? We are at 11 Athol Avenue, Tranmere, South Australia, and we welcome every breed through the door. Whether your dog is short coated, curly, double coated, or somewhere in between, we wash, dry, brush out, and finish them properly. Our team holds Australian pet grooming certifications, and we handle teeth scaling, ear cleaning, and nail clipping as part of the service.

The Salon
Certified groomers, proper equipment, and products that perform.
Our salon is built around dogs being comfortable while they are with us, not just clean when they leave. We use elevated heated baths for senior and sore dogs, and twin tub hydro baths sized for extra large breeds so no dog has to be squashed into something too small for them. We finish every coat with Plush Puppy show quality products, which means your dog walks out smelling clean (not perfumed) and with a coat that lasts longer between grooms.
🐾 What we are not
We are not a high volume production salon. Your dog will not be on a leash conveyor belt. We work on one dog at a time, properly, and we will not rush a groom just because the clock is moving. Rushed grooms are bad for dogs and we will not do them.
Why Regular Bathing Matters
Four real benefits of a proper bath.
There are a lot of strong opinions online about how often to bathe a dog. The honest answer is that it depends on coat type, lifestyle, and skin condition. But across all dogs, a proper bath does more than just remove visible dirt. Here are the four benefits that matter most.

Keeps the coat clean
A regular bath removes dirt, allergens, environmental fungus, and odours that build up between grooms. In winter especially, the right shampoo and conditioner combination keeps skin moisturised through the coldest, driest months when indoor heating is stripping moisture from the coat.
Reduces inflammation and infection
A proper bath cleans inflamed or irritated skin, lifts surface bacteria, and gives early stage skin issues a chance to settle. For dogs with allergies or recurring skin problems, the right shampoo schedule from your groomer is part of the treatment plan, not just a wash.
Improves your household health
A clean coat puts fewer allergens into your home. For families with hay fever, asthma, or sensitivity to pet dander, a regular bathing routine reduces the airborne particles your dog carries from outside in their fur. The whole household benefits.
Therapeutic for your dog
For dogs who enjoy a bath, it is a pleasant, relaxing experience. Just like a long shower for us. Warm water on the skin, gentle handling, and the comfort of a clean coat afterwards. A bath at the salon is also a controlled, safe environment with proper grade products that you cannot replicate at home with shampoo from the supermarket.
A Common Issue Worth Knowing
Dealing with hot spots on your dog.
A hot spot is a localised patch of inflamed, weeping, infected skin that develops fast and gets worse fast. You will usually notice the dog licking, chewing, or scratching one specific area repeatedly. Hot spots have a few common underlying causes: flea allergies, anal gland infections, food sensitivities, or stress and anxiety. Visit your vet as soon as you notice the behaviour. The vet will diagnose the underlying cause and prescribe the right treatment, which may include keeping your dog from licking or chewing the area with an Elizabethan collar (the cone of shame).
Treatment may include
- Clipping the hair over the sore so air and treatment can reach the wound
- Cleaning the hot spot with a gentle, non irritating solution
- Prescription antibiotics and topical treatments
- Parasite control to prevent and combat flea reinfestation
- A balanced diet to support healthy skin and coat
Prevention
- Keep your dog on a regular grooming schedule, with coat clipped shorter during warmer months if appropriate
- Follow a strict flea control program as recommended by your vet
- Reduce anxiety and stress with proper exercise and quality time with their humans or dog friends
- Check the skin during brushing for any early signs: redness, smell, or hair loss in patches
At Home Care
Two things every owner gets wrong at home.
Choosing toothpaste
Do not use human toothpaste on dogs. Most contain xylitol or fluoride, both of which can irritate or even poison a dog's stomach. Ask your vet for a dog specific toothpaste, or use a simple paste made from baking soda and water for routine cleaning. Aim to brush at least twice a week.
Paw pad moisturiser
Do not use human moisturisers on paw pads. They soften the pads in the wrong way and can cause injury when the dog walks on rough surfaces. Ask your vet for a dog specific paw balm. A gentle paw massage with the right balm also improves circulation: start between the pads on the sole, then between each toe.
Before You Book
A few things to know before your first appointment.
Grooming takes 2 to 4 hours
The exact time depends on your dog's size and how long it has been since their last professional groom. We do not rush a groom. Rushed grooming is bad for your dog's wellbeing and we will not compromise on the time it takes to do the job properly.
24 hour cancellation notice
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give us at least 24 hours notice. Less than that and a late cancellation fee may apply. We hold your spot, and a late cancellation means another dog could not have been booked into your slot.
Final pricing confirmed at drop off
The prices in our table are starting prices. The final price for your dog will be confirmed by the groomer at drop off, once we have assessed the coat condition and any extras needed. We are always upfront about what is in the price and what is extra.
Matted coat and difficult temperament fees
A heavily matted coat takes significantly longer to work through safely, and may incur an additional dematting fee. Dogs with anxious or difficult temperaments who need extra time and patience may also incur a small additional fee. Both are about doing the job safely, not about charging more for the sake of it.

Frequently Asked
Dog grooming questions, answered honestly.
How much does a dog wash cost in Adelaide?
For a basic wash and brush at Dog Love, prices start from $35 for small dogs, $45 medium, $55 large, and $65 extra large. A full wash and tidy starts at $70 for small dogs and up to $130 for extra large dogs. Final price depends on coat condition and size, confirmed at drop off.
Is salon grooming better than home grooming?
For most dogs, yes. Salon grooming uses professional products, hydro baths sized to your dog, proper drying equipment, and an experienced eye for early skin and ear issues. Home grooming covers brushing and occasional baths well, but it is hard to replicate a salon dry, a proper deshed, or to spot early signs of skin problems on your own dog.
How often should my dog be bathed?
It depends on the coat. Short coated dogs (Frenchies, Boxers, Staffies) every 4 to 6 weeks. Curly and wavy coats (Cavoodles, Groodles, Poodles) every 4 to 6 weeks as part of a full groom. Double coats (Goldens, Border Collies, German Shepherds) every 4 to 6 weeks during coat blow seasons, otherwise every 6 to 8 weeks. Generic advice like "every 2 to 3 months" is too vague to be useful.
How do professional groomers wash a dog?
The proper process: (1) gently encourage the dog into the bath or tub, with treats if needed. (2) Wet the entire body with lukewarm water, never cold or hot. (3) Apply diluted shampoo across the whole coat, working into the skin without scrubbing. (4) Rinse thoroughly. (5) Shampoo a second time for dirty dogs. (6) Apply conditioner suited to the coat type. (7) Rinse until the water runs completely clear with no residue. (8) Towel dry, then finish with a dryer appropriate to the coat. Skipping the second rinse is the number one DIY mistake.
Do dogs feel better after a bath?
Yes, in most cases. A proper bath removes dirt, allergens, dead hair, surface bacteria, and any environmental funk the dog has rolled in. It also nourishes the skin and coat, helping the dog feel less itchy and more comfortable. The excited zoomies after a groom are real, and they are a good sign.
Can my dog get worms or fleas from a groomer?
A reputable salon takes hygiene seriously, and the risk is very low. At Dog Love we clean and disinfect between every dog, use fresh towels for every wash, and require all clients to be on a current flea and worm prevention program. If you ever see signs of fleas or worms after a groom, we want to know about it so we can investigate immediately.
Where is Dog Love located?
