Nail Trimming Adelaide: The Foundation of Happy Paws

By Naja | Dog Love Services | Tranmere

Healthy movement for your dog starts from the ground up. While it might seem like a small detail, the length of a dog's nails changes how their entire body functions. When nails are too long, they force the paw to tilt, putting pressure on joints and muscles that weren't designed to carry weight that way.

"If you can hear your dog clicking on the floorboards, their posture is already being affected."

In our Tranmere salon, we focus on more than just the trim. We look at the "quick"—the blood vessel inside the nail. By trimming regularly, we encourage that quick to recede, which eventually allows for a shorter, tighter, and more comfortable nail for your dog.

Many owners find nail clipping stressful at home. That is completely normal. Our approach is quiet and patient. We believe that a calm environment is the only way to build trust with a dog, especially when it comes to their paws.

Common Questions

How often should my dog visit?

For most dogs, every 3 to 4 weeks is the sweet spot. This keeps the nails away from the floor and keeps the quick short.

What about dark or black nails?

Black nails are common! We use a gradual trimming technique, checking the cross-section of the nail as we go to ensure we stop at exactly the right spot without causing pain.

Do you do dewclaws?

Yes. Since dewclaws don't touch the ground, they don't wear down at all. We check every nail to make sure none are curling back toward the skin.
