How much is a Cavoodle puppy in Australia?
Most families pay between $4,000 and $6,500 for a Cavoodle puppy from a breeder in 2026.
Toy Cavoodles sit at the top of that range and bigger miniature and standard Cavoodles toward the bottom. What you are paying for, when the price is fair, is health tested parents, a puppy raised in a home and a breeder who will take your call in a year's time. For comparison, Australians paid $1,419 for a dog on average in 2025 across every breed and source.
Rescue Cavoodles do come up, and the adoption fee, usually around $500, normally already covers desexing, microchipping and first vaccinations. That one change takes about $1,000 off your first year.
What the first year actually costs
Year one is about $9,800 with a $5,250 puppy, or about $4,570 on top of the price of the puppy.
| Cost | Year one |
|---|---|
| The puppy (middle of the usual range) | $5,250 |
| Bed, crate, bowls, lead, harness, collar and tag | $400 |
| Puppy vaccinations and one extra check up | $402 |
| Desexing ($400 for a boy, $515 for a girl) | $458 |
| Puppy school | $200 |
| Full Groom every 6 weeks at Dog Love | $997 |
| Brushes, spray and shampoo at home | $60 |
| Accident and illness insurance | $894 |
| Mid range dry food, treats and chews | $557 |
| Flea, tick, worm and heartworm, bought online | $177 |
| Dental chews and toothpaste | $84 |
| Toys and enrichment | $300 |
| Council registration | $43 |
| Total | $9,822 |
The harness line is worth a little thought, because a Cavoodle's chest changes shape as the coat comes in. Our guide to the best harness for Cavoodles covers the fit.
How much does a Cavoodle cost per year?

| Mid range dry food, treats and chews | $557 |
| Vet check up and vaccinations | $354 |

| Total | $3,725 |

Size moves the yearly cost less than people expect. A 4 kg Cavoodle comes to about $3,313 a year and a 12 kg one about $3,960. Two optional things move it a lot more: one day of daycare a week adds about $2,400, and leaving insurance out takes about $1,150 off, until the day you need it.
Over a typical 12 year life the whole thing comes to about $56,000 including the puppy. The yearly cost creeps up as the years go on, from about $3,600 at age one to about $4,560 from age eight, almost entirely because insurance premiums rise with age.
Grooming is the Cavoodle cost people miss
A Cavoodle coat keeps growing, so professional grooming is not optional. How often you go is the biggest choice you get to make.
| How often | Each year |
|---|---|
| Full Groom every 4 weeks | $1,495 |
| Full Groom every 6 weeks, what we recommend for most Cavoodles | $997 |
| Full Groom every 8 weeks with a Tidy Up in between | $1,300 |
| Full Groom every 8 weeks | $748 |
| Full Groom every 12 weeks | $498 |
Our Full Groom is priced by weight: $100 under 5 kg, $115 from 5 to 9.9 kg and $130 from 10 to 14.9 kg. The Tidy Up between grooms is a bath and blow dry with the eyes cleaned, paws shaped, paw pads shaved and the sanitary area cleaned, which keeps a Cavoodle fresh without a full cut. Every price is on our Adelaide grooming prices guide.
The coat decides the rhythm. Curly coats do best every four to six weeks and wavy fleece coats every six to eight, which is why six weeks suits most Cavoodles. Not sure which you have? Our guide to Cavoodle coat types explains the difference, and how often to groom a Cavoodle goes deeper on timing.

Vet care and insurance for a Cavoodle
Good news first: Cavoodles are one of the cheaper breeds to insure and claim for.
Canstar puts the average Cavoodle premium at $1,120 a year, against $1,359 across all breeds. PetSure's 2025 claims data tells the same story, with Cavoodles averaging $776 a year in claims against $1,047 for all dogs.
What does change is age. For a small dog, accident and illness cover averages about $894 a year under one, $1,153 at two to three, $1,496 at four to five and $1,890 at six to seven. Routine vet care, a yearly check up with vaccinations, averages $354 a year in Australia.
Cavoodles are cheap to insure. They are not cheap to insure late.
Lifespan matters for the lifetime number too. Cavoodles have not been studied as a breed yet, but their parents bracket it: Cavaliers have a median lifespan of 11.8 years and Poodles 14.0, and crossbreeds overall sit at 12.
Where the money goes further
None of these cut a corner. They just stop money leaking out of the budget.
- Brush between grooms. A coat that arrives tangle free can be styled at the length you love. A coat that arrives tangled usually comes off shorter.
- Buy flea, tick, worm and heartworm prevention online. For an 8 kg dog the same monthly chew is about $177 a year online against about $336 at standard pet store prices.
- Start insurance while your puppy is young. Conditions found before cover starts are usually excluded, so cover started early tends to cover more.
- Use a Tidy Up between Full Grooms if you like a fresh face and feet but do not need a full cut every month.
- Buy daycare in bundles. At Dog Love, 10 full days are $475, which brings each day to $47.50. Our guide to daycare costs in Adelaide compares the options.
